I recently got into a routine of a cup of hot chocolate in the evening. I have a machine that makes the cocoa in a stainless steel carafe and it never burns or boils over. I use water, and then add some half and half (which I also use in the morning in my coffee). So it's not as rich and milky as it would be using milk instead of water, but it's a lovely evening drink. I like a little "heat" in it, and have tried different brands of Spicy or Mexican cocoa. (One brand used chipotle pepper. Ugh - NEVER AGAIN!! It gives it a really nasty aftertaste. IMHO, chipotle doesn't even belong in true Mexican food, and I grew up eating Mexican food in California.) But this brand, Equal Exchange, uses chili and cinnamon, and it is the PERFECT BALANCE. I use this, in equal parts with DARK COCOA powder, and it makes the best ever hot chocolate. Just the right amount of "heat." I'm ordering it again and will continue to do so.

It is a lot smaller of a canister than I'd like for $13-$14 but it is pretty decent chocolate. I did have to add three overfilled spoonfuls (probably more like 4 tbsp vs the recommended 3 tbsp) to get a strong enough chocolate taste to my liking as it is more like the baking cocoa chocolate than the Nestle or other kinds you usually find in the store that are overly sweet. Doing this much not only added more of a chocolate taste but also doubled down on the spiciness. If you like spicy foods, you will like this cocoa. I enjoyed it okay but it may actually be just a little bit spicier than my liking. I'll still enjoy it on occasion but not only does it have hot cinnamon, it also has ceyenne pepper. Is it the best cocoa I've ever had? No. Is it the best spicy cocoa I've ever had? Probably not. But it is "good" and I like that it comes from a morally good source. But I may just be used to Mexican chocolate when I think of spicy chocolate. It's possible they just used too much ceyenne. I'd give it a 3.5/5 compared to cocoas I have had before.

I have their dark cocoa one and it's amazing love it, but this spicy one was different at first then I was like 'ok, its pretty good' then I was like 'OH NO, this is horrible' it gave me super bad acid reflux, heart burn, and chest pain. They also made me sign for it when it was delivered and not the dark cocoa one which I find suspicious........ I had to be 18 years old or older to sign for it....... Idk but the spicy one just made my chest not feel good at all and it wasn't even that spicy. I can handle my spice and I love spicy food, but this was just awful.
