"This new book is full of fascinating information and is incredibly readable. I picked it up in something of a post-Christmas haze and couldn't put it down." Dr Andrew Bailey, Fellow of the Royal College of General Practioners "An important, easy to follow book which is full of surprising and effective weight loss tips. It should change a lot of lives for the better." Professor Desiree Silva, University of Western Australia "Dr Mosley, one of the world's leading writers covering nutrition and health, does it again with a very informative and entertaining book. " Dr Valter Longo, Director of the University of Southern California Longevity Institute "This diet changed my life. I lost 16kg (35lbs) in the first 8 weeks and I've lost another 6kg (13lbs) since. I was a borderline diabetic but I'm not anymore, in fact I'm healthier than I've ever been." Denise Bach, aged 51 "I lost 40lb and I'm now a size 10. I feel so much better. This approach is now part of my daily life." Penni Cuthbert, aged 33 "Not so much a diet as a new way of living. NOT worth the money or time.
A couple of tips that have helped me so far:
-Plan ahead - pick out what you are going to eat every day and shop for all the ingredients ahead of time. Also, budget enough time in your schedule for meal prep. I opted to eat my calories in two meals a day rather than three (it hardly seems worth the trouble to prepare and clean up three tiny meals a day)!
-If you don’t have a food scale, I recommend getting one. Mine is an old cheap plastic one and works fine for this. It made measuring the correct amounts for recipes easier.
-Try some recipes even if you think you may not like them very much. When you are fasting for two weeks or longer, everything tastes much, much better.
-Take the advice in the book about beverages - it was helpful to have lots of different teas (iced and/or hot), sparkling water with lemon or lime, and I bought a device to make cold brew coffee at home to ease my transition to drinking it black.
-I wasn’t consistently doing strength training; adding it to the program a few days a week helped me feel more energetic and made my body look better, which motivated me to keep going.
Good luck with your weight loss! It wasn’t as difficult as I expected it to be. The coupe of things I didn’t love about this book: the recipes were sometimes for 2 servings, sometimes 4. I found it hard not to waste food during the fast. Maybe I should have been better about freezing leftovers. Also, the author pushes his website (and the “support community”) a number of times without mentioning it costs a chunk of money to access. I didn’t join and the free part of the site is pretty weak.
