Supportive and ultralight, durable and incredibly comfortable, the Pillow X is a backcountry sleep necessity and may be the most technically advanced pillow ever developed. The advanced, self-centering X design positions and cradles your head for supportive, stable comfort. Durable 75D at the bottom resists abrasion and punctures, and the lighter 30D top sheds grams and ups softness. Weighing a scant two ounces and packing down to the size of a lighter, this is a luxurious necessity that always fits in your pack

The pillow was too loud and took a lot of adjusting to get where I wanted to be over a few backpacking trips.
I finally got to a point where I felt that I could justify the reduced comfort but felt I needed to shave more weight and size off to justify the reduction to comfort levels that my down pillow provides.
So i went looking for the regular Pillow X which is smaller and weighs less. I found it at REI and pulled the trigger. Unfortunately it was a horrible decision, apparently REI sells the Pillow X - titled Pillow X but it actually isn't the Pillow X. They ship you the X pillow, not the Pillow X. Small difference? No... apparently the X Pillow is a cheaper version of the Pillow X... with worse materials and a horrible design. I couldn't even use it for 10 minutes in my bed, it was that horrid. REI says it's a problem with Klymit and to talk to them. Klymit says it's a problem with the design and it was done as an exclusive for REI. REI told me the best I can do is send it back on my dime or talk to Klymit. Klymit said to return it to REI...
In any case, it is frustrating that Klymit didn't take any responsibility for the product and that they're willing to craft inferior products and sell them under misleading (at best... crooked in my opinion) one off names, while the users are left to suffer.
To that end, the XL is a decent pillow, but not better than my down pillow. The X Pillow is not worth the space in the house. Time to find a new backpacker that doesn't have a pillow. Not worth rewarding a company that doesn't value its customer nor the quality of their products. It's like they said in the Outdoor Magazine article on Klymit...sales are king, it's all that matters to the company. They lost at least one customer, both pillows are going back.
-Ultra-portable - it deflates and rolls up into a tiny sleeve, and weighs almost nothing. Perfect for backpacking when every ounce matters.
-Easily inflatable - only 2-3 breaths fills it up
-Adjustable (kind of) - you can fold it over to give you different support levels, but it's super great as a pillow in a hammock
-Comfort - in theory, the pillow should be able to cradle your head, but mine ended up just in the middle and not cradled. I had to let out air and fold it over to help prop up my head, which wasn't super comfortable. Which leads me to...
-No grip - the pillow slides about because both sides are really slick. I found that I couldn't use it on its own as it would move around too much.
It's possible that I move around too much when sleeping, or my pillow needs are/were never going to be met by backpacking pillows. However, the potential is there. It might be heresy, but I'd actually love this pillow if it was slightly bigger (thicker specifically) and had a touch of a grippy surface on the underside to stay in place. Immediately, it would bring it up to a 5-star product. Maybe in future versions? Until then, I'll just use my backpack as my pillow, unless I'm sleeping in my hammock.
