Upon reading the reviews of the X299 Prime deluxe, I was not even going to bother ordering it, yet, it had everything i looked for, so I took the plunge...
I am glad I did, my board works 100% fine...
- Posted on first try and not a single issue.I run 2 x M.2 Nvme 960 pros... one 1 TB for OS and a 2 TB for data...and all is good, had not issue to install windows and / or to format drives. Windows and the mobo, recognize them right away.
- After a few tweaks, it is becoming rapidly the best board I ever had.
-Little LED display that shows mobo temp and other info is so cool and useful.
What I had to do to maximize (Not CONS)
-I updated to BIOS 0802 and it kind of was rough (told me on first boot up after update that it did not work), but i let it cycle through and it indeed worked.
-I had to cut bracket for 2nd M.2 drive so it would not over-extend (cut just above 2280 hole).
- I had to upgrade all Aura and other software, so Aura and also little LED display would work. Once I updated utilities, all came 100% working.
-2nd M.2 slot is vertical and held with a bracket...This is a design flaw and one day I will rip this thing off by accident. It also is in the way with radiator hoses when set-up in front of case. I did cut mine to required length with a metal saw and it is so much better.
-I lost USB functionality in back panel, but once I updated BIOS and utilities, all came back to normal.
Overall very satisfied, especially given the multiple bad reviews, I was fearing the worst.
Thunderbolt. This is the singular reason I bought this board over other boards. I then spent 1-2 weeks fiddling with settings trying to get it working, piecing together "documentation" (I use that word loosely) and hints from forum posts (from other people trying to get it working) and finally maybe got it working.
Then I found some fun things. The pictures make it seem like it has two USB-C/Thunderbolt3 ports (one on the card and one on the motherboard itself) as well as one Thunderbolt2/MiniDisplayPort on the card. *It does not*. It has ONE USB-C/Thunderbolt3 (on the card), ONE USB-C (on the motherboard), and a Mini DisplayPort *input,* which you feed your graphics card in to to enable DisplayPort encapsulation.
I then plugged in the Apple Thunderbolt III (USB-C) to Thunderbolt II adapter to use my old Apple Thunderbolt Display. If I have that plugged in while starting the computer, the BIOS complains about USB OverCurrent (but doesn't tell which port) and shuts down. If I plug in it after POST, it works just fine. I even purchased another brand of adapter and that had the same issue.
From day 1, the BIOS would not recognize my keyboard if it was plugged in to the top ports. Now, none of the USB 3 ports on the board work - only the SS10 USB 3.1 ports work. This is a pretty significant loss as well.
I was on a trip this last week. I left it on because another computer was using one of its networked drives to copy some data. Note that it's on a battery backup and there were no power losses / surges while I was gone. I came home to find it OFF (my guess? Windows restarted the computer, then the USB overcurrent BS turned it off). When I went to turn it on, it wouldn't come on - wouldn't get past the POST screen. The on-board display said "Code:b4 Load VGA BIOS" which is a terrible message because b4 really means USB HOT SWAP according to the manual. Come to find out that my USB 3 multi-card-reader caused it to not respond at all in POST. This is also when I lost the USB 3 ports. After plugging my keyboard/mouse into a USB 3.1 port, I *finally* got it to boot, and now Windows reports (about the USB 3 controller) "This device cannot start. (Code 10)." So that's a loss too.
Overall, It has been one thing after another with this board; don't waste your time with it.

Upon checking, if it is disabled it will disable the UEFI mode.
If I disable CSM, the boot options ONLY SHOW UEFI partitions. If I enabled CSM, then it shows UEFI and legacy boot options as well. What you are staying is still WRONG.

I have returned the motherboard to AMAZON and will be purchasing from a different vendor. I plan to never deal with ASUS again. You literally just lost a loyal customer (I have products going back to the original ASUS GeForce 256).
You folks are insane.
In EITHER CASE... ENABLING or DISABLING CSM should NOT effect USB 3 operations. You have a serious flaw in motherboard design or UEFI BIOS and also in support.
